The next session was a presentation by Smart Mobs author Howard Rheingold, Rheingold started with a discussion of the term 'info-tention', an amalgam of information and attention, which relating to the honing of our ability to deploy our attention and the information tools that we have available to help us find good information, without which we would drown in a sea of spam.
He tied together a number of different themes around assessing the quality of information and the future development reputation systems that might enable us to find our way the content of the internet.
"There is a real problem that has not been solved, and that is that reputation is not fungible," he says."It is very hard to translate reliability in one field to reliability in another field."
That means knowing which networks to turn to for different topics. And he talked about some of the information filtering tools that are now appearing, such as Philtro.
